Which are the most profitable blog niches?
Choosing a profitable blog niche is a very important decision to make once you have decided you want to create a blog. You probably have a lot of ideas to write and would love to start writing right away, however if you want to have a higher chance of becoming a successful blogger and make money from your blog, you should have a niche blog.
What is an niche blog?
A niche blog is a blog focused on a topic. This type of blog has all its content related to a topic and is intended for a group of people who share similar interests, preferences and needs.
Why do you need to choose a profitable blog niche?
Writing about what comes to mind on your blog might not be a good strategy. It is unlikely that many people have the same interests as you, and in the long run, people can get confused as they are not clear about what to expect from your blog.
Having a niche blog gives you focus and helps you define an audience. Having a defined audience allows you to know who your reader is, their interests and their needs, therefore, it helps you create content for them. This increases the chances that your audience will like what you write and do, know what to expect from your blog, and become loyal readers.
Having a niche blog leads you to become an expert on the subject. People will see your blog as a place where they can find valuable information and you could build a good reputation in your niche. Being a leader in your niche has many advantages: people visit your blog frequently because you have good quality content, they share your content, which brings you more traffic, and having more traffic from people who are interested in your blog means more income. Also, having a blog with good content and that people like, makes Google consider your blog relevant in its niche and will show it more in the related search results (SEO).
Lastly, it’s a good exercise to do some research on other blogs. You will be surprised to find that many successful blogs have a niche. Here are some examples of successful blogs and their profitable blog niches:
Pinch of Yum – Food Niche
Jennifer Maker – Craft Niche
Life over C’s – Educational resource niche
How to choose a profitable niche for your blog?
Now that you know the advantages of choosing a niche for your blog, you may be wondering how to choose it? Blogging is not just about writing about something that you are passionate about, it is also about having skills that can help you develop content around it and have a chance to make money from it.
Here I will share with you some tips to help you decide.
What are your interests?
The first thing to consider is what your interests are. Think about the things that you love to talk about, that you know about, and can spend hours researching on the internet. Write them down. The interests you wrote down can be niches for your blog.
Now it is time to start narrowing down these niches so you can choose one for your blog. Ask yourself these questions:
- Do you like to write about those topics you wrote down?
- Do you feel like you know a lot about them?
- Can you solve a problem within any of these topics?
Look at each of the niches you have on your list and think if you see yourself writing about it. Remember that you will have to create a lot of content for your blog around the niche you choose, so evaluate if writing a lot about it sounds boring or, on the contrary, it sounds exciting to you. Eliminate from your list those topics that you do not find interesting to write about.
Is there a group of people interested in that niche?
Now is the time to check for other successful blogs in the niches you have on your list.
Do a quick Google search and see what the results are. For example, you can Google “best food blogs” and you will probably find lists of food blogs. Visit some blogs that you have found and check their content, what they write about.
Can you make money in that niche?
Finally, find out which are the most profitable blog niches from the ones that are left on the list.
There are many ways to make money from a blog. Visit blogs of the niches you have on your list and see how they are making money. Do they have ads? Affiliates? Sponsored posts? These are just a few ways to make money blogging.
- Ads: You can make money by offering ads on your blog. Every time a visitor clicks on any of those ads, you will earn an amount of money.
- Affiliate Marketing: With affiliate marketing you promote products or services on your blog and when someone clicks on the link you placed and buys the product or service on the seller’s page, you earn a commission.
- Sponsored content: With sponsored content, you charge a business or brand for writing a post or review about their product or service.
- Courses: You create a course and make money selling it.
- E-books: You create an e-book and make money selling it.
Let’s take a look at the blogs I mentioned earlier to see some of the ways they use to earn money.
Pinch of Yum – Food blog
Pinch of Yum is one of my favorite blogs. I have followed them for a long time and have been able to watch them grow. They are a super cute couple: Lindsay, a former teacher, who creates all the recipes, and Bjork, her husband, who has a background in technology and decided to help Lindsay grow and monetize her blog. They shared their growth and monthly income for a few years. These reports are super detailed and are a great way to see how a blog grows. See the reports here.
Some ways Pinch of Yum is monetized:
- Advertisements. You can see at the bottom of the main page that they have an ad. Also, if you visit a recipe, you can see ads at the top, bottom, and in the sidebar. Every time a visitor clicks on any of those ads, Pinch of Yum makes money for it.
- Affiliate Marketing. Pinch of Yum is an Amazon affiliate. Check out this recipe and scroll down to the “Equipment” section. You can see that they suggest some products that are useful to prepare this recipe. Clicking on any of them will direct you to the product page on Amazon. If you buy that product, Pinch of Yum will earn a percentage of the sale.
- Sponsored content. They work with brands and make money from it. Check out their sponsored content page to get a better idea of how they do it. The Spicy Posole with Cheesy Jalapeño Cornbread Muffins is one of their sponsored posts.
- Ebook. Pinch of Yum created an e-book to help others take amazing recipe photos. They make money on this every time someone buys it. I bought it a while ago and I have to say it is amazing! Check the e-book they sell here.
Jennifer Maker – Craft niche
I love crafts and even had a small stationery business a couple of years ago. I found her blog a while ago and I love it. It has great ideas and tutorials.
Some ways Jennifer Maker is monetized:
- Advertisements. You can see ads both on the front page and in the posts.
- Affiliates. Jennifer uses an amazing machine to cut parts for some of her crafts. She uses it, promotes it and places links in case someone wants to buy it from the seller. Every time someone clicks the link on her page and buys the machine on the seller’s page, they earn a commission.
- Courses. He has created some courses to learn how to use the Cricut, which is the cutting machine she uses. Check out her courses page here.
- E-books. In this link you can see the electronic books that she sells related to crafts and how to use the Cricut machine.

If you click on any of them, it will take you to the product page on Amazon. If you buy that product, Life Over C’s will get a percentage of the sale.
